Mary Jane shoes, comfy looks, column skirts, functional and flexible bags and gold accessories are all trending according to a trend report from Atlanta Apparel.
Atlanta Apparel’s semi-annual trend report is out, and it looks like the 1990s alongside several other influences are back in full force.
Developed by its in-house fashion office, the report showcases upcoming Spring and Summer 2023 colors, prints and styles available at upcoming October Atlanta Apparel, October 11-15 at AmericasMart Atlanta.
“Spring and summer 2023 trends put a strong emphasis on optimism and creativity as consumers seek to shake off the restraints of the past difficult years,” said Morgan Ramage, fashion director at Atlanta Apparel. “In response, Atlanta Apparel’s October market will feature a mix of bright colors alongside comfortable neutrals, lots of innovation, an emphasis on quality and playful prints, details and materials.”
Color wise, Spring and Summer 2023 will focus on shades of natural and nostalgic tones alongside vibrant colors like the key colors luscious red, digital lavender, sundial yellow, verdigris green and tranquil blue. Deeper hues, which are not usually associated with spring and summer, will add an unexpected directional update and impact the trans-seasonal fall period.
For the season, key trend themes reflect a surge of creativity, innovation, quality and versatility with a renewed celebration of life from a variety of influences. The three trending themes for spring and summer 2023 are:
- Full spectrum – digital influence, bold and expressive patterns
- Soul space – quest for satisfaction via relaxed silhouettes, soothing color patterns, natural and boho prints
- Design wise – smart, simple, solution-focused products and inclusive, labor-intensive parts
“People want to show off while dressing comfortably, and Atlanta Apparel exhibitors are ready to showcase these trends in just weeks,” Ramage added.
Clothing trends will follow trending themes and key colors of silhouettes and styles. Mini, wrap and column skirts will allow for additional comfort and customization in the waistline. Baggy pants, utilitarian carpenter pants, 90s, skinny and minimalist pants, and vacation shorts will allow for customization through relaxed fit, innovation, and increased comfort. Tops will emphasize optimism and craftsmanship in crochet, artisanal, halter, tie front and wrap styles and dresses will cover a wide variety of uses, from utility to style with patchwork and knit maxis, halter midis, boxer minis, active dresses and cutout beach dresses. Swim will follow the 90s, tiny minimalist styles with asymmetrical cuts, strappy patterns, collage fabrics and cutouts.
Footwear trends for spring and summer 2023 provide comfort while showcasing the desire to dress up and celebrate through soft finishes and easy indoor and outdoor styles with puffy slides, 90s flatforms and platforms, bling bows, material slides, mid-heeled mules, durable and artistic sneakers, mary jane ballet flats and tie-up designs.
Accessories will be designed with long-term design and durability in mind with qualities that align with a more flexible lifestyle. Party earrings, layered and beaded necklaces with pendants, retro and hexagon shaped sunglasses, body and belly chains, woven bucket hats, beach bags, mini purses and everyday underarm bags will all be popular.
