Ready to start shopping and sprucing up your summer wardrobe? We spoke with Stefanie Lowe, in-house stylist at Nordstrom, for her take on this season’s hottest trends and simple tips on how to style them.
Cutouts
From tops to dresses to shoes, cutouts are all the rage this summer. Whether you want to rock an open back, an exposed side, or a cheekier midriff (show off those abs), you can make this trend your own by looking for cut-out pieces you feel confident in.
“We see cutouts in the back, the side, the neckline, the shoulder, even on shoes and sportswear. It’s super fun,” says Lowe. ” My advice ? Keep your accessories to a minimum and let the cutout do the talking. Keep everything super simple, down to your hair and makeup.

Patterns + Textures
Summer is the perfect time to make bolder fashion choices and this season is all about bold patterns and textured pieces. Lucky for you, the one-of-a-kind Nordstrom Anniversary Sale features a wide variety of vibrant pieces that you can mix and match to create eye-catching looks.
“We see a lot of strong textures and impressions coming through; think faux leather or more retro designs,” says Lowe. “You can dive in loud with bold matching sets, or you can nod to this trend by incorporating unique pieces into your look. Either way, being bold is an absolute must. Don’t be afraid to take risks, then you can take all the compliments.
So, opt for a dress or jumpsuit with loud patterns or some head-to-toe texture (hello, faux leather matching set), or you can pair a bolder piece with denim and rock it.

White shoes
Whether it’s sneakers, ankle boots or a pair of pumps, white shoes are a staple of a summer wardrobe (and beyond if styled correctly). They are the easiest way to tie a look together and have the power to completely dress it up both up and down.
“Nothing screams fresh like a pair of white shoes. My two favorite picks are a white sneaker and a white cowboy boot,” says Lowe. “For an effortless look, wear your white sneakers with your dresses and pants this summer. a statement, rock a monochromatic look by pairing your white shoes with an all-white outfit.

Jeans
Skinny jeans are *finally* a thing of the past and now there’s so much more room to play in the denim category, especially during the summer. Whether you like an ankle boot, flare, straight or wide fit, these different cuts of denim are so versatile when it comes to styling different looks.
“Updating your denim for the season is the best way to stay on trend,” says Lowe. “I love pairing straight leg denim with an oversized poplin shirt, worn open over a tank or with a half pleat.”

Summer suits
As we head back to the office, it’s the perfect time to upgrade your summer work look and find the perfect office pieces that can transition into happy hour without a hitch. The key is to keep it light and airy. For men and women, find suits and blazers made with lighter materials and colors for summer and fall.
“I love a matching ensemble. We see a casual suit vibe all over the street style. Consider pleated cropped pants with a casual shirt, blazer, or even a vest,” says Lowe. “Mix these on-trend pieces with sneakers for a more unexpected approach to everyday dressing.”

Accessories galore
Finally, the key to tying any look together is accessorizing. From sunglasses and jewelry to luxury watches and handbags, take advantage of the anniversary sale by shopping for both summer pieces and more timeless accessories you can wear season after season.
“Sunglasses complete a look. What’s trending are geometric shapes, think hexagonal, rectangular or even square,” says Lowe. “Also embrace the nostalgic fashion revival with your accessories and add a straw bag or trinket bag to your look.
